Work Hard, Then Play Hard
Why do athletes succeed in both sports and business? Performance, teamwork, commitment... the list goes on, but another great attribute is one not often discussed, but one we have noticed with our visits and conversations with top companies. How about a work hard/play hard mentality!? This last month, The Corporate Playbook was extended an opportunity to attend the International Human Resource Conference for Enterprise Rent A Car in Dallas, TX. With over 700+ HR professionals in attendance; trainers, recruiters and senior leadership were provided continued education, resources from top speakers and on-going training on how to remain one of the top recruiting and retention companies in the country. It's a great feeling when we observe how well employees are treated by one of our partnering companies and think "WOW". We can honestly say that Enterprise is one of those companies! It is obvious that Enterprise values its staff and in return, everyone that we met that worked for Enterprise, seemed to really like their job. Whether it was the pool tables in the lobby, basketball goals in the conference room or Guitar Hero/Rock Band being played on the big screen TV's, the employees had a great time and we were able to take part in the festivities around their daily meetings. "I don't think that I've ever felt so much positive energy from a group like I did from Enterprise. The warmth wasn't just between Enterprise employees but between the company and the partners they invited to be a part of the event. Every person we met from Enterprise was genuinely happy to meet us, get to know us and find out how we could help them connect with athletes," stated David Utley, Chief Technology Officer. If your looking for a company that works hard and plays hard, look no further than Enterprise Rent A Car! |

Moving Your Career Forward
If you are like most people, you lead a busy life. When do you have time to think about moving your career forward? When making any change, the key is to slow down and focus on just one thing at a time.
You must evaluate the different aspects of your life, concentrating on discovering what best suits you. Discover what jobs you are best at, what kind of work environment brings out your star qualities, and how you react in networking and interview situations. Discovering the real you will help establish a strategy for career growth.
No matter what career issues you desire to improve, below are seven strategies to help you focus on your career goals.
1. Ask A Powerful Question
Ask yourself one burning question about your career. Use this question to drive the rest of your strategy. Is your question, Should I change careers?, Should I start my own business?, How do I learn office politics?, Who would be an excellent mentor for me?, or the age old query, What do I want to do with my life?
2. Get Focused
Get as specific as you can, and then, write your burning question down. For instance don't simply ask; What do I want to do with my life? Instead ask; What do I want to accomplish by the time I am sixty years old? Put your question somewhere you will see it every day such as on your appointment book, your calendar or your refrigerator.
3. Remove Distractions
Do something that will reduce your stress. Career change is tough; managing it requires that you remain focused. Consider taking up yoga, getting a massage or exercising. Replace worry, avoidance, procrastination and denial with emotional and physical well-being.
Eliminate nonessential busy work that hinders you from reaching your goals. Leave this type of work for later, grouping similar tasks together, hiring someone else to do it, or giving it up altogether...continued here |
